Pluckley Woods ghost hunt 23rd November 2012
This particular evening was a crisp 2 degrees Celsius with a clear sky and some moonlight, which although looked atmospheric made the woods a lot lighter than when there is no moon, as the moonlight makes it seem much more open than it is. However with the moon, there wasn’t any need for a torch as the pathways could easily be seen.
I started in my usual spot and after a short while a male spirit energy approached us, he was 33 years old and from the 1890s and gave me the impression that he was a farmer as he wore green coloured trousers and a check shirt but I found it odd that he wasn’t wearing a hat, as in that period farmers would have worn hats.
After some brief KII activity and communication via our electronic equipment I started a séance to give the guests some physical evidence of the spirit energy present. Whilst the farmer spirit energy was present, another male energy came forward to touch and move the guests as part of the séance. His name was Michael and he had dark and hair and a stocky build.
Michael was able to gently move some of the guests arms and push one or two of the guests as well as using our hands to stroke the faces and hair of some of the guests, which was a strange sensation for all those concerned.
A female spirit energy was also present, although she took a while to approach us and as I was telling the guests that she was approaching, one of the guests commented that they thought that they could see a shadow on the path of a person approaching us.
During the séance many guests commented that they could see lights behind me, one guest described the lights as being similar to shooting stars but much smaller and nearer to the ground.
At the end of the séance I did an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voice) experiment.
There were several responses to the question asked but even under extensive analysis the recordings could not be enhanced that much and it took a lot longer to figure out the words being spoken by the spirit. The best can be heard at:-
We would recommend listening to these several times to actually hear the words spoken.
The second location I set up the laser grid and pointed it along the path, some guests commented that they could see shadows within this grid, although I couldn’t because I was seeing the spirit energies.
Various spirit energies came and went, which the guests were able to detect on our KII meters and there was some communication via the gadgets.
There were also some strange noises heard further along the path and behind us, many of which sounded like footfalls of people.
Some guests ventured further along the path to investigate a light that they could see and the shadows in the grid.
At this point I started using our Spirit Box (a device that scans the FM radio waves in reverse at 100ms). First several names were heard, none of them belonging to anyone present, then we all heard “Hi” and “Hello”.
I asked how many guests were present and we all heard a very clear “5” then one of the guests who were investigating further along the pathway returned. I then asked the same question and we all heard a very clear “6” I also asked how many were further along the path and once again we all heard a very clear “3”. All of these answers were correct as there were 9 of us in total.
Once again a very successful ghost hunt with some good evidence, both physical and audible experienced by the guests.

The Star ghost hunt 2nd November 2012
Alfriston, East Sussex
The Star Inn has a history of smugglers and tyrants who used the Star as a safe haven because of the instant protection of the Sanctuary Post offered by the Church. We had confined ourselves to the upper floors and the “Feature Rooms” (the two oldest in the hotel) to start with until the Restaurant and Bar had all emptied.
In the first room, there was a male spirit by the name of David, who told me that he was a peasant and lived under a local bridge and passed away because of a horse running over him. Although he gave no year, possibly because he didn’t know the year, I got the impression that this was some time during the 1700s. There were periodic energy spikes shown on our KII EMF meters when he stood near people and David made Jamie feel cold and in his own words “odd”. There were also periods of communication via our electronic equipment and some guests saw shadows within the room.
Whilst a guest was asking questions to David I recorded them and the following EVPs were recorded
In the second room another male energy called Charles was present, he was aged in his mid-50s, very well dressed in a three piece black suit with a top hat and a cane and he also had a full beard. Charles was also a portly gentleman who gave the impression that he once owned the building.
As I asked Charles to touch people, some felt the sensation of being pushed (the pressure) but not that actual physical pushing. On our Spirit Box (a device that scans the FM radio frequency in reverse at 100ms) some names were heard.
Further audio recordings were taken but no ghost voices were found under analysis.
During a séance in the Heritage room there were some arm movement and one guest was gently pushed by a female spirit.
However when the rest of the guests (who were downstairs with another member of the team) joined us for another séance and different spirit energy joined us. His name was Timmy and he was 36 years old, he was able to life everyone’s arms and gentle push people. During the senace it became apparent that this particular energy was capable of so much more. So we then started to use a writing planchette. This is similar to a Ouija Board planchette, except that there is a pen or pencil used for drawing.
First Timmy drew a flower, similar to a sunflower.
I then asked Marc (GHE team) to draw a shape on a piece of paper & not let us see it, but show it to the guests watching. Then I asked Timmy to go and look at what had been drawn and repeat it using the writing planchette. Timmy got them all right.
The first shape was a figure of eight, then a Triangle, a square & circle combined which turned out be remarkably similar to the key shape that Marc drew (although not identical)
I then asked Marc to draw a number and asked Timmy to copy this. Timmy drew either a 6 or 9, which is exactly what Marc had drawn, because it depends which way you look at it.
Then someone on the table asked for Timmy to write his age, after he had finished we couldn’t really work it out, although it started with a 3 so using a strange Yes and No method, as Timmy didn’t seem to be able to write a Y, so we used a circle for Yes and N for No we deduced his age to be 36.
This sort of activity and incredible drawing ability is quite rare and one which certainly made the night for us.
This ghost hunt was surprising as we did not expect the level of activity that we encountered the writing planchette experiment was definitely the highlight of the evening. The meal that accompanied this ghost hunt was also enjoyed by all.

Pluckley Screaming Woods ghost hunt 26th October 2012
This is what I would call the first winter ghost hunt, cold and rather muddy, however this did not detract from the level of paranormal activity experienced by the guests.
The first location we had some good but brief moments of KII activity and some communication via our electronic equipment, but the majority of the time we were hearing footfalls and other strange noises from within the woods. Given the nature of these woods it could not have been a person as they would have needed a torch to navigate, which we didn’t see.
A female energy was present, although she did not tell me her name as she felt quite shy, however she was wearing a flowery dress and looked to be in her 30s.
Also present was a male spirit called Timothy and during the resulting séance, some arm movement was felt by the guests.
The second location, once again strange noises and footfalls were heard but still no obvious answer to the noise. I set up the laser grid but nothing was seen in this grid. Whilst we were looking into the grid I turned on my SB7 (Spirit Box) which scans the FM radio frequencies in reverse at 100ms intervals. As it is scanning in reverse we can be fairly sure any voices heard in normal time are from spirit because no radio station broadcasts in reverse.
On the SB7 we heard “Hello” and the names of some of the guests “Laura” “Lisa” and my name “Steve” and strangely when asking questions out loud the spirit responsible didn’t just say yes, they said “I understand” or “Correct” which is rather odd. There were lots of word spoken although not all could be understood.
Once again a very enjoyable ghost hunt and one in which the guests had a number of paranormal occurrences or experiences that they could not explain, not to mention the very good session with the Spirit Box.

Fort Borstal ghost hunt 20th October 2012
Fort Borstal, Rochester, Kent
Fort Borstal is one of those sites as a Ghost Hunt company we never thought we would be able to investigate, because it is privately owned. However we were nicely surprised after the owners contacted us wanting to know whether we would be interested in investigating their Fort.
Considering this is one of the five that was built especially to protect Chatham and we already investigate Fort Horsted (which is the largest) we were very keen to see what this Fort had in terms of spiritual activity. We were not disappointed.
The approach to this Fort is strange, not least because of the lack of lighting and it certainly looks a scary place upon arrival and as my team said to me, very atmospheric.
For this ghost hunt we had three distinctly different areas to investigate; The Caponier, which as the worst staircase in the world to navigate, 92 steps down (and back up!), The Officers Mess, which was a secret area even to those soldiers stationed there in The Second World War and a third underground Caponier.
My area for the night was the main Caponier (with the wonderful staircase [sic])
The first group had varying degrees of activity on our electronic equipment; some spikes of KII activity and some communication, but I thought it would be better to hold a séance since this particular place doesn’t get any people visiting and the energy levels would naturally be low.
A male energy by the name of Thomas came forward, he told me that he was a Colour Sergeant (Sergeant Major) in the Army. He was about 6’2” aged in his 20s and of stocky build and he was wearing civilian clothing (a blue shirt). He also gave me the impression that he was a funny character and had a wicked sense of humour. The was also another male energy present; Dave a private. Both were from the Second World War era.
During the séance many voices, mumbling and footsteps were heard, although given where the other two groups were, no person on site could have been responsible for these noises.
Both Thomas and Dave treated most of the guests to some gentle arm movement as they in turn went from one person to another to manipulate them.
At the end of the séance I conducted an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voice) experiment. Due to the natural echo because of the long tunnels cancelling out the background noise was quite difficult, as was listening for ghost voices, however the clearest and most audible from this session can be heard at:-
The Second group I took to the other end of the Caponier (as it is a double Caponier). Almost immediately there was good communication from our electronic equipment but no KII spikes. During the resulting séance a WWII Soldier by the name of Jeremy came forward and was able to move some of the guests arms. There was also a female energy present, aged about 20 years old and called Isabelle. During the séance we heard lots of noises, some in the tunnels and one very loud sound that came from the dry moat, this sounded like wood being banged (an impact sound). Several whistles we also heard, although when we heard them no-one could say in which direction the sound came from.
The Third group I took to the same area as the first group, although very little happened because the group were busy laughing and joking with each other and paying little interest to the reason why we were there i.e. ghost hunting.
The strangest sound that we heard was the sound of footfalls, as if someone was approaching but given the staircase and the fact that it was dark, we would have easily seen someone approach, as they would have needed a torch to navigate the staircase.
After we finished our controlled part of the night, we let the guests (under supervision) return to any area which they enjoyed or wanted to experience again in a smaller group or on their own.
I spent some time with another member of my team in the Officer’s Mess just for about 10 minutes or so but during those 10 minutes the both of us heard; a door slam (there are no doors to slam), lots of footsteps, knocking sounds and female voices. We also did several EVP recordings as there was a male energy present who seemed to be of great importance. This energy didn’t like either of us being there and made us feel uncomfortable. Carl who was listening with sound enhancement equipment heard some responses when I asked whether this spirit energy was from Yorkshire. Carl heard “go” “leave” and some laughing.
I too also heard sounds but couldn’t hear any words although I did have a strange chemical taste in my mouth. We both also saw some strange lights further along the corridor.
On analysing our EVP recordings the following results can be heard at:-
After this the remaining guests joined us in this area to experience the same feelings that we had both just felt. Although the uncomfortable feeling had dissipated, probably due to the fact that any area isn’t scary when there are lots of people about, we did hear some noises, taps, knocking, whistles and some loud bangs.
However one of the guests did capture a strange photograph, which seems to have the shape of a person at the end of the corridor. Both the photographs below are copyrighted to Emma Coyle.
All in all a very enjoyable ghost hunt, especially since we were the first ghost hunting company to investigate Fort Borstal, hopefully future visits to this location we will have more activity experienced by us and our guests.
