For a change Pluckley village was a nice quiet place, the woods even quieter, with no wind to speak of and no obvious animal noises.

We headed for what I call my usual area, as this has been the scene of so much activity every time I have done a ghost hunt here.

After an initial spike of EMF activity seen on our KII meters and some brief but informative communication via other electronic equipment I decided that it was time to hold a séance as this is the best way for the guests to experience paranormal activity.

We were joined by a male energy called Philip who was 22 years old and from the 1970s as he was wearing flared jeans and a shirt with big collars, he was also an RTA (Road Traffic Accident) victim. Philip was able to push some of the guests forwards and pull them back, some were swayed. Philip was also able to lift some of the guests arms. Many of the guests reported tingling and pins & needle sensations in their hands. Some guests also saw shadows further along the path. We were also joined by an older male energy (who did not give me his name) but this gentleman looked like a farmer, short and stocky build who had big hands.

At the end of the séance I held an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena) experiment to try to record some ghost voices. There were several, although the two clearest can be heard at:-

From here we moved further into the woods to another familiar spot to me and one which has also proved to be a good spot, but for a different reason, namely Spirit Box activity. Our Spirit Boxes scan the FM radio frequencies in reverse at 100ms, so if we hear anything going forward we can be sure that no radio station broadcast it, as no radio station broadcasts in reverse.

I also set up the laser grid at this point and many guests reported seeing shadows moving within this grid. There was also high levels of EMF energy (as seen on the KII meters) and a high level of communication via the other gadgets.

There was a female spirit energy around us called Elizabeth and she appeared to be quite strict, aged in her mid to late 40s and looked like a farmers wife.

On the Spirit box we heard “Hello”, “hi” and then I asked for the spirit to say the names of the people present. We heard very clearly “Steve”, “Jed”, “Tasha”, “Simon” and “Keith” with some names being repeated several times.

Also at the same time when guests were asking questions hopeful that they would be answered either on the Spirit Box or the communication equipment, we heard “Yes”, “No”, “Maybe” and “Shhhh”

After this very eventful session we moved deep into the woods with the idea that I would hold another séance. Before we arrived at an area where I thought this would be a good spot, I noticed that a male spirit energy was following us. He identified himself as Mark and looked to be in his early 20s and he seemed to be dressed in horse riding attire and carried a whip or crop. Once again I held a séance circle and Mark had no problem to manipulate the guests, with lots of people being pushed and swayed and pushed into each other, Tasha & Sara were even twisted to face different directions, Grace was also pulled downwards by her and Sara’s hands. There was also a lot of arm movement experienced by the guests.

At the end of the séance, guests were taking photographs and although nothing was seen at the time, one photo seems to have a “horse shaped” mist, see below.

Once again a thoroughly enjoyable ghost hunt which all the guests enjoyed, especially as it was their first proper ghost hunt. The Spirit box activity was probably the best and clearest that I have heard outdoors for a long time.

Fort Borstal ghost hunt, Rochester – 20-10-2012

Fort Borstal is one of those sites as a Ghost Hunt company we never thought we would be able to investigate, because it is privately owned. However we were nicely surprised after the owners contacted us wanting to know whether we would be interested in investigating their Fort.

Considering this is one of the five that was built especially to protect Chatham and we already investigate Fort Horsted (which is the largest) we were very keen to see what this Fort had in terms of spiritual activity. We were not disappointed.

The approach to this Fort is strange, not least because of the lack of lighting and it certainly looks a scary place upon arrival and as my team said to me, very atmospheric.

For this ghost hunt we had three distinctly different areas to investigate; The Caponier, which as the worst staircase in the world to navigate, 92 steps down (and back up!), The Officers Mess, which was a secret area even to those soldiers stationed there in The Second World War and a third underground Caponier.

My area for the night was the main Caponier (with the wonderful staircase [sic])

The first group had varying degrees of activity on our electronic equipment; some spikes of KII activity and some communication, but I thought it would be better to hold a séance since this particular place doesn’t get any people visiting and the energy levels would naturally be low.

A male energy by the name of Thomas came forward, he told me that he was a Colour Sergeant (Sergeant Major) in the Army. He was about 6’2” aged in his 20s and of stocky build and he was wearing civilian clothing (a blue shirt). He also gave me the impression that he was a funny character and had a wicked sense of humour. The was also another male energy present; Dave a private. Both were from the Second World War era.

During the séance many voices, mumbling and footsteps were heard, although given where the other two groups were, no person on site could have been responsible for these noises.

Both Thomas and Dave treated most of the guests to some gentle arm movement as they in turn went from one person to another to manipulate them.

At the end of the séance I conducted an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voice) experiment. Due to the natural echo because of the long tunnels cancelling out the background noise was quite difficult, as was listening for ghost voices, however the clearest and most audible from this session can be heard at:-

The Second group I took to the other end of the Caponier (as it is a double Caponier).  Almost immediately there was good communication from our electronic equipment but no KII spikes. During the resulting séance a WWII Soldier by the name of Jeremy came forward and was able to move some of the guests arms. There was also a female energy present, aged about 20 years old and called Isabelle. During the séance we heard lots of noises, some in the tunnels and one very loud sound that came from the dry moat, this sounded like wood being banged (an impact sound). Several whistles we also heard, although when we heard them no-one could say in which direction the sound came from.

The Third group I took to the same area as the first group, although very little happened because the group were busy laughing and joking with each other and paying little interest to the reason why we were there i.e. ghost hunting.

The strangest sound that we heard was the sound of footfalls, as if someone was approaching but given the staircase and the fact that it was dark, we would have easily seen someone approach, as they would have needed a torch to navigate the staircase.

After we finished our controlled part of the night, we let the guests (under supervision) return to any area which they enjoyed or wanted to experience again in a smaller group or on their own.

I spent some time with another member of my team in the Officer’s Mess just for about 10 minutes or so but during those 10 minutes the both of us heard; a door slam (there are no doors to slam), lots of footsteps, knocking sounds and female voices. We also did several EVP recordings as there was a male energy present who seemed to be of great importance. This energy didn’t like either of us being there and made us feel uncomfortable. Carl who was listening with sound enhancement equipment heard some responses when I asked whether this spirit energy was from Yorkshire. Carl heard “go” “leave” and some laughing.

I too also heard sounds but couldn’t hear any words although I did have a strange chemical taste in my mouth. We both also saw some strange lights further along the corridor.

After this the remaining guests joined us in this area to experience the same feelings that we had both just felt. Although the uncomfortable feeling had dissipated, probably due to the fact that any area isn’t scary when there are lots of people about, we did hear some noises, taps, knocking, whistles and some loud bangs.

However one of the guests did capture a strange photograph, which seems to have the shape of a person at the end of the corridor. Both the photographs below are copyrighted to Emma Coyle.

All in all a very enjoyable ghost hunt, especially since we were the first ghost hunting company to investigate Fort Borstal, hopefully future visits to this location we will have more activity experienced by us and our guests.

Rye Castle ghost hunt – 21-7-2012

Rye Castle (Ypres Tower) ghost hunt – 21st July 2012

We have held two ghost hunts at Rye Castle in the past and each time the level of activity increases nothing could have prepared us for what happened on 21st July. It was truly exceptional what the guests experienced.

We started with two groups, one group going up to the upper level, the other to the basement level. My group on the upper level had within minutes much KII activity and plenty of communication via our electronic devices and since it was still relatively light outside the room felt safe and generally comfortable.

To give the guests an experience of the spirits that reside within the wall of the Tower I decided that it would be pertinent to hold a séance, as this is the best way to experience spiritual activity.

We were joined by a male energy called Tony, he was aged in his mid-40s and quite a stocky build since he was about 5’8” in height. He was wearing a white shirt and brown or tan trousers but what struck me as being odd is that he had very shiny black shoes. The shoes did not look like they belonged to him. Tony was a happy spirit and I felt he would have been quite a character when he was alive, as his facial expressions hid nothing. He had a round likeable face although slightly bald. He seemed to be have no reason to be in the tower. If he did he didn’t tell me.

During the séance circle Tony moved the guests arms on request and did exactly what they asked, even when the guests did not voice their request.

We were also joined by Agnes a female energy who remained non talkative from the start. She was well dressed and aged in her late 40s.

Lorraine (guest) could smell sick during the séance which made her feel uncomfortable and then she could taste it as well which nearly made her physically sick!

Ted (the Rye Castle Museum guide) could also smell manure as did some of the guests including Lorraine. Ted also smelt roses but only in a certain part of the room, Jeff (guest) too also smelled roses.

There was also a Policeman or Peeler present. He only gave me his surname as Constable Peace. He looked about 30 years old but did not talk to me, just looked on for the entire séance, which not only involved gentle arm movement but also some swaying and for Rachael (guest) some much more forceful movement.

During this time we could see light flashing through the floor which we assumed was the other group taking photographs, however light would not have reached us from where they were (in the basement) and when we asked them after the session had finished they did not take any photos on the ground floor, which had they done so we would have seen. The light we saw has no rational explanation as light cannot pass through solid objects.

 

After a short break both groups swapped locations.

Once again on the upper floor we had excellent communication via our electronic equipment but this time very little KII activity. The room also felt different and most people noticed this. Both Ted and I had no explanation for why this might be.

Once again we were joined very quickly by a young energy. His name was Timothy Spratt, his father was a local fisherman and his mother was imprisoned in the Tower. He was about 9 or 10 years old and was dressed in what I would call a school uniform and had blonde hair.

There were also two female energies present, possibly sisters as they looked alike, aged about 20 years old and they just stood by the display cabinets and some of the guests saw shadows in that area of the room.

Ted commented to me that he felt uncomfortable in one of the corners beside a cell. I could feel the spirit energy that was responsible, although he posed no threat to us at this time even though he wasn’t a particularly nice person.

Once again I started a séance circle so that these guests could experience spirit activity and hopefully get some physical movement.

The movement started gently with simple arm movements to the majority of the guests. Many of the guests were amazed at this as they did not expect anything to happen!

I noticed a male energy that seemed to appear from nowhere step really close to the circle, the other energies that were present all disappeared and the movement stopped briefly then started again but with more force. The male energy gave his name as Benjamin and he made Claire (guest) feel very uncomfortable. All Benjamin told me is that he was the energy that Ted felt in the room earlier and that he hated women and used to murder them for fun. He was imprisoned briefly in the Tower for murder. Benjamin tried to twist my hands and Shelly’s (guest) apart, as Shelly was standing next to Claire and Benjamin thought he could get to her that way.

Many guests also felt very cold when Benjamin was standing near them, this felt like the sort of cold felt when opening a freezer.

Teresa (guest) who was standing on my left felt movement around her ear and hair, several minutes later her earring “fell out”, which given the way earrings are attached could not have been an accident as everyone was holding hands and no one touched Teresa’s ear.

The energy Benjamin was making many of the guests feel uncomfortable and we could all feel a force which was pushing us downwards. Ted had moved from where he was sitting because he too didn’t feel well sitting in that spot and moved to the other side of the room.

Many guests felt sensations around the back of the necks and their hair, I too felt a restriction around my throat. Shelly also felt pains and touches in her sides.

Then I saw my guide, this is something which I don’t often see, which is just as well because every time I do it means I or someone in the circle is in danger. Within a matter of seconds, after I had told the guests what I had seen I was just about to say “He’s Gone” when everyone in the room felt a huge relief and we were all able to stand upright. The atmosphere in the room changed from its thick nature when we started to a light an airy nature. The guests could not believe what they had just experienced, especially Teresa who was a sceptic.

After another short break everyone headed out into the courtyard and Women’s Tower. In the top room we have experienced much activity before and as we started Carl (GHE team) stood in the corner of the room that he didn’t like and an area which many guests have felt odd or strange.

Marc (GHE team) and myself were calling out for spirit to make a noise or to whistle. Carl heard some responses although he was wearing an audio amplification device, the rest of us did not hear those sounds.

Once again some of the guests were feeling sick. I had warned them that this may happen, as it has every time we have visited the Women’s Tower. Marc using his Ovulus had the male energy Tony (from the earlier séance) telling us to go outside.

I decided that this was the best opportunity to do an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena a.k.a. ghost voice) experiment. Everyone asked a question to spirit and when we played it back we could all hear a response after one of the guests questions. On further analysis we had six spirit voices after a question but during the analysis only four of those could be understood; you can hear them at:-

Ted by this time wasn’t feeling well (again!) neither was Carl and both had to leave the room. Marc decided that it would probably be a good idea to hold a séance circle to build the energy and get the spirit energies to do something. After a short amount of time there were energies present and people were feeling strange and odd sensations. Marc then asked if they guests were OK, but Teresa failed to answer. Marc said that her could feel her “going” and I stepped in to place her in the middle of the circle as she did not respond to her name being called out. Once in the circle she came back straight away although she felt very tearful and insisted that she leave the room, so I escorted her outside, where she remained tearful and she explained that she felt the despair and the emotions of the spirit energies that were held there.

This was undoubtedly the most interesting ghost hunt and the most activity felt by the guests that we have held at Rye Castle and I suspect that the reason for this is that we are not allowed to go back until 2013 because the Museum is having some major repair work on the roof of the Women’s Tower and the building will be closed for many months.

All the guests and Ted thoroughly enjoyed the experience, as did we because the EVP’s that we recorded here are some of the clearest that we have recorded to date.

Bicknor Church and Woods – 2-9-2011

Scott and Debbie walked and stood alongside the road and within a matter of minutes they were both virtually running back. Apparently they had heard something similar to footfalls along the adjacent lane. According to Scott it sounded like someone jogging. Needless to say there was no-one jogging and there are no houses near here.

As soon as everyone else started to walk away I too felt uneasy and had the unusual urge to look behind me, even though I knew that I would not see anything physical.

Scott and myself heard a noise similar to that of a plastic bottle being dropped on the road and then a few moments later Scott & Graham heard an unusual sound but they likened it to an angry swan.

Walking through the woods was an eerie experience, as these woods aren’t walked very often and the woods themselves seemed to watch us, it was a very strange experience, just walking everyone was on edge and apprehensive.

I stopped at a spot because my EMF metre was pulsating, never going any further than the orange light (which is halfway). Everyone stopped and took some photos, some had orbs, but most didn’t. Then I asked out for the spirit who was affecting the EMF metres (we had three) to make a noise, within a very short amount of time, we all heard a noise, it is hard to say what it sounded like. Then I asked again but for the spirit to make it louder and more or less instantly we all heard another noise and it was definitely louder. This process continued for several minutes of asking spirit to make louder and louder noises, until we heard something right beside us which made everyone jump!

As an experiment I shone the laser grid down the path, I wanted to see whether this could be used outdoors (as it is very successful indoors), whilst I was doing this the EMF metres were still pulsating and Graham was trying to photograph the laser light. Almost instantaneously Graham and I asked if anyone was smoking because the both of us saw a mist formation pass us (from the group behind) and head into the laser lights (which in hindsight was the opposite direction that our cigarette smoke was going). Scott and Laura built up the courage to walk down the path in the same direction that we had seen the mist, and almost immediately they came back, apparently they heard a noise, like footfalls and wanted to return to the relative safety of the rest of the group!

As we continued to ask spirit to make a noise I became aware of a male energy, his name was Jerome and he was wearing modern clothing (1960s) he stood about 5’5” and was roughly 60 years old and sported a bald head and round spectacles. To me he looked like Ghandi. I then asked if he could do something different or make a very loud noise. I saw the tree opposite me shake and then something fell out of the tree right beside everyone, but it made no noise. I tried to shake the tree but it didn’t move. (and like I said earlier, it wasn’t windy)
From here we walked further down the path, this time it didn’t feel quite so bad as before, although I came to an abrupt stop when I heard a growl. I thought it could be an animal but nothing moved in the woods, but it sounded like it was right beside me.

Once again Scott and Laura ventured off into the woods and once again came back in such a short amount of time, in fact the path out from where there had ventured wasn’t a difficult path, but because Scott wanted to get out quick he just bulldozed his way out through trees and branches, which was very amusing to watch. They had to get out of there because they had heard footfalls which according to Scott & Laura sounded human.

Whilst we were talking photos in this area we all noticed that it seemed misty, when our torches were shone upwards it seemed there was a mist above us. During this period many orbs were photographed and I captured a very strange mist on my camera (photo added to ghostly gallery )

Scott suggested that we should go to where he and Laura heard the footfalls, within a matter of minutes after asking spirit to make a noise we all heard similar footfalls and yes it did sound like a person, but it also sounded like someone venturing through a wooded area, however when I investigated and looked behind the very old tree that was blocking our view (the same spot Scott & Laura chose) I was expecting to see a fairly thick wooded area, but to my surprise it was completely open for about 50 yards and when I shone my torch nothing moved (if it were an animal).

I decided that we should do an EVP experiment at this point, as we hadn’t done any all evening. However this was not the right time, as I cannot play the recording because there are so many expletives and laughing, because everybody could not complete this simple exercise without laughing. However as we were playing back the 3 minute recording the EMF metres were once again pulsating as if spirit found it just as funny as we did.

After calming down and I continued to record short clips after asking spirit to make a noise, Graham exclaimed that he had just heard a growl and it sounded more like a person than an animal.

As we were leaving the woods we all took many photos, I however had captured a red orb, which although as far as I know doesn’t mean anything, I have rarely captured a red orb, often they are white (or grey), blue, green and yellow.

This was an amazing ghost hunt, as the level of spirit noises and general spookiness of it all was truly brilliant, we especially liked the footfalls as we know that we were definitely the only people there and we saw no animals.
